After many months of lurking, it's time to step up and say hello and thank you for all your pearls of wisdom. Let's start with the template:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am brand new to chickens. As of March 14th, I have 7 easter eggers, 2 barred rocks, 17 cornish Xs and 1 mystery chick (banty silver sebright roo). I have already been bitten by chicken math and on a trip to pick up feed added 4 amber links and 2 gold comets to the brooder.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Oooo, I'm up to 33, Yikes!
(3) What breeds do you have? See above.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I have been reading for months and trying to learn as much as possible, hmmm, maybe "Chickens for Dummies."
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, making jewelry, and reading.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am the proud Moma to; David and his wife Guss, and Grandma to their baby Evelyn(I don't see them nearly often enough as my son is in the army and an Afganistan veteran.); Michael who is my rebound child and who shares my love for digging in the dirt; Jessica my daughter who is living in LA pursuing her dream of dancing professionally. I have been married for 28years to my DH. I am a cardiac cath lab nurse in a very high stress field who loves coming home and laughing at the chicks antics. This all started for me when, I read as book called the"Omnivore's Delimma," by Michael Pollan and it made me think - Do I really want to support our current system or do I want to do something different? ASnd so here I am, a proud chick Mama.
