I've been reading BYC for several months-- My husband ordered plans for a coop from this website. We actually took the plunge and bought our chicks in Mid -April. We've never raised chickens before, but have had our share of dogs, rabbits and iguanas. When our beloved dog Moses died we were torn between another dog or a flock of chickens. Obviously, chickens won!
We have 11 hens--barred leghorns, golden laced wyandottes, marans, some generic sex-link ones that are maybe leghorns and australorps, and little golden phoenix because I thought it would be pretty!
We have two grown daughters who live nearby and 6 grandchildren. David and I have been married for 44 years and have been in Lafayette, CA for the last 25 years.
