Hi all,
I've wanted chickens since I was a kid and my wife Yukiko and I have finally made the move from the Clearwater Florida area to just East of lake Wales Florida. Armed with our new agricultural zoning, we can begin our chicken adventures.
We run a small beekeeping business Musashi The Bee, and for three years we kept our bees in our backyard without complaint UNTIL one brand new neighbor moved in and complained about our bees. The zoning official shows up and says it's a $1,000 a day fine so it was clearly time to move lol.
We now live near the Lightsey's ranch and can have our bees in peace and quiet. We're both so happy to be out of the city now too. An extra side benefit is I can finally achieve my long held desire to have some chickens.
I've seen there are some swaps in Lakeland area, so hopefully I will be able to meet some of the local people in my neck of the woods.
Both of my neighbors have chickens and I'm sufficiently jealous that I need to get serious about learning what to do...so I'll read a couple of books and then go out and do some meet and greets ;-)
I'm glad this site exists as well!
Thanks,
Musashi
