Latrobe, Californai
HI everyone! My name is Casey and I live on a 4400 acre cattle ranch in Northern California.

I am new to chickens and guineas. I got my first chicks in April of this year, and just picked up 6 keets yesterday. I am hoping that by next year the guineas will help keep my chickens and family safe from the rattlesnakes that frequent the property.

My Flock:
I have 8 chickens right now: 2 A
merucanas - Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor, 2 Buff Orpingtons - Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha Jones, 2 Black Australorps - Keep and Eat (not really gonna eat her by my hubby has a strange sense of humor), and finally 2 Polish Gold-Laced-Frizzles - Timber and Harriet. However, this last week we have found out that Harriet is really Harry as he loves to crow all day long! I also just added 6 Keets that I have in a brooder separate from the chickens. I plan on slowly integrating them to the coop when they are ready which should be a while!

A little about me:
I love living on this ranch. The family that owns it homesteaded it in the 1800s so it is rich in history! I love having my chickens - they have been such a joy and I already have so much stories! I work full-time for a large WW computer/security corporation and also run my own antique space at Melange in the historic district of Folsom, CA. I enjoy creating art, reading and gardening. I love growing sunflowers!

My Family:
Besides the chicks I also have 2 english bullodgs - Ruby and Drake, 2 wonderful teens and my wonderful hubs!

I look forward to hearing and learning from everyone here! I love seeing your amazing coops and chickens!

Casey! Glad to have you!

Great intro! Did you draw the flower in your avatar? It's beautiful!

Welcome to BYC, Casey. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a very good and thorough introduction.) In which part of northern California do you live? My family and I lived in the Corning area for 7 years. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hope 6 guineas are enough to manage rattle snakes. I know they like to mob snakes,(like meerkats) which distracts them and makes it easier for the guineas to kill.
