hello to all--
I am a duck lady for 6 years and a chicken lady for 2. Country living has it issues with pests and pets. Fox, coyotes, bob cats, owls, red tail hawks, mink, snapping turtles, opossum, and raccoon are issues we are always on the look out for. I have had to deal with them all and loss of life of my crew. I'm always angry when it happens but I have to remember it is wild life and they will eat. We do our best and fix up those who can be fixed up and dispose of the rest.
The animals are a joy to have around. The chickens(rir, leghorn mixes, 1 barred rock, 1 white something with rosecomb and 1 black one?) follow me everywhere, including the garage where they know where their food is. They think its a buffet table occasionally and all you see is butts. The ducks are more independent.(runners, rouens, khakis, pekins, and a white mallard) They go to their pond daily and swim out to the duck party platform(a mini floating raft with roof my husband built) I have 2 ducks sitting at this time. I have one chicken who is broody at the moment but wont stay sitting on the same eggs everyday.(ugghh) I think Im gonna give her some duck eggs to sit on and put her next to the sitting duck. Just new the past 2 days I have 9 chicks,,(1 has a bum leg, im at a loss on what to do with it, she wont use the leg by putting the foot down)--The daddy is the rooster you see in my avatar with my 3 year old grandson holding him. Anyone know what he is???

ok, enough babbling,

Wow that is a big rooster! I am new to chickens and quail so I have no idea what he is. This website has a bunch of pictures and if you are looking for a breed they group them by qualities. He would definitely be a big bird. What a great picture!
