Hello from Louisiana

My family & I are brand new to the chicken world. We bought our first little flock just over 2 weeks ago. 16 baby chicks from our local feed store. One has since passed away, but the rest of the flock is doing well. We've got one white chick, 4 buff colored chicks, 2 black ones, 3 speckled chicks (2 had chipmunk-like marking on their backs), and a few others. Their feathers are coming in now, so we are getting an idea of what they might look like as adults. My husband built a great-looking coop in our front yard. We decided to raise the chickens so we could have those delicious yard eggs, and so far, with the exception of our casualty, we are loving the experience.
