(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm not new to chickens since we had them while I was growing up. I'm currently in the planning stage of building a coop and readying for chicks this spring.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I don't have any right now, but want to get a dozen or so. This should be a good start for my family to get eggs. I'll probably just get some hatchery chicks to get our feet wet the first year or so.
(3) What breeds do you have?
None at this time. I'm really interested in some day getting into heritage chickens bred to the standard. Maybe my kids and I can get into showing and also help preserve some endangered breed. I like the large fowl, dual purpose breeds. My current interests are in Plymouth Rocks, RIR's, Wyandottes, Orpingtons, Austrolorps, Sussex's, Jersey Giants, Welsummers, and Buckeyes. I'd love suggestions for easy varieties of heritage birds to get started in. We live in hot, humid central Louisiana.

Just did a Google search and found the site.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Like playing Chess, Table Tennis, reading all sorts of books, woodworking, football, and baseball. I super enjoy gardening and landscaping in my yard. I have a special interest in growing roses.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Have a big German Shepherd, two healthy cats of the mutt variety, and three wonderful kids. Am happily married to the love of my life. I'm a happy member of a Reformed Baptist church and hope that my life is honoring to God. I'm a medic/safety tech in the oil industry.
