Hi everyone, I am new to this and just got my first hens last Saturday. 4 black sexlinks about 1 year old and I am in love with them!

I always wanted to get chickens especially when I bought my house in the country but my ex was strongly against it. Well he is gone and I have my chickens, and I got the much better deal!

I love watching them scratch around my garden looking for bugs. They follow me around everywhere. Collecting the eggs is such a treat. I've already gotten 19 eggs since saturday, not including what I think they will lay today. Its unbelievable. I thought being in a new environment would slow their laying for a week atleast, but so far they seem really content and happy with their new surroundings. And I am really content and happy with them! Maybe even a little obessed... especially with this website, LOL.

Hope yall have a great weekend & thanks for reading!

Yeah, think you did get the better deal. Be very careful though. I think this website should have a warning label. "CHICKENS ARE ADDICTIVE" The more you have, the more you want. I just picked up last week from the feedstore 22 lil black sex links. Nice to hear they are such great layers!

I'm also from maine, just outside Freeport in the woods. We had 6 RI reds last year and we lost 3 to the wild animals. We just got 6 black astralops and 6 black sex links. I didn't remember that they grew so fast. These guys are just 3 weeks old and they are flying out of there box already. The old reds just hate them, and I am nervous about them being in the yard together. I am thinking that we need to make a little run for them so everyone can get adjusted. They are in the back of the truck this morning and they are just loving it so far.
