Hi all, I am new to the chicken world. We are in the building stages of our coop and hope to have some chickens in it by the beginning of August! Thanks for all the information here it has been very helpful so far!!!

There are 5 of us in our family and we were going to let everyone pick out a bird from the 4H'ers at the local fair in August. So I am not really sure what we are going to end up with :) Personally I would like some sort of easter egger, Ive always loved the colored eggs

the coop we are building is going to be based off of The Palace plans, but we have a strict neighborhood association so we are going to side and shingle it to match the house so it will blend in better. It is very exciting because we are the first approved chicken coop in our area :)

That's exciting to have your coop approved, and The Palace is a very nice looking coop. Be sure and use the 1/2" hardward cloth that the plans call for (don't substitute with chicken wire to save on the cost). There are just too many predators that can either tear through chicken wire or pass through the openings in the mesh. Although hardware cloth costs a little more initially, it's cheaper than replacing your flock. Good luck in building The Palace.)

thank you, and yes we are planning on using the hardware cloth, I know we have foxes and raccoons in the area and don't want to lose any birds! I also just bought an automatic door from chicken doors.com. We are also planning on insulating the coop and it will be solar powered with lights. If you are going to do something might as well do it right!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with the coop build and soon to be new flock!
