We are Rhiannon and Paul. About a year ago, we purchased a 12 acre lot in the middle of farm country. The perfect get away for a combat veteran with PTSD and his girlfriend to start a life together. Once we settled into our new home, we decided to attempt a semi self sufficient lifestyle.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We purchased our chicks in April 2017. It was a much discussed topic and we felt we were ready. He had a little bit of experience from childhood and I had none.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
24 chickens, 7 turkeys, 2 ducks
(3) What breeds do you have?
4 Isa Browns
4 Black Sexlink
4 Silver laced Wyandotte
6 Golden laced Wyandotte
2 Leghorn
4 Plymouth Barred Rock (We think, they were supposed to be silver laced)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google, when we realized 4 of our silver laced wyandottes looked different from the others.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Art & gardening(her) and building/fixing things (him). We both enjoy hunting and fishing.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Aside from our flock, we have a Chocolate lab puppy, 2 indoor cats and 3 barn cats.
