I retired from 37 years teaching in 2007 and decided I wanted to raise some chickens on my acre lot. I first ordered 50 Xrocks for food and 25 RIR’s for eggs and 12 white leghorns. Jumped in with all four feet, right? I have lost several from neighborhood dogs, a few from hawks, and the freezer got the Xrocks. I have truly gotten the bug and ordered 60 more of varied breed, which arrived Monday. Ordered more RIR’s, layer assortment, delaware, austrolorp, houdan, crevecoeurs, campines. Lost 20 of them from cold in transit and have the replacements coming this Monday. I have two chicken houses and plan on building another. Took about a quarter acre from my son to build a fenced pen to protect the birds. I love this website, just happened on it by accident, and spent hours last night checking it out. In fact, woke around 1:30 this morning and laid awake for two hours thinking about chickens. You have imprinted on my brain. Looking forward to many more nights checking out the website.

My other hobbies are gardening, both flower and vegetable, :)basket weaving, getting 2 hives bees in April, playing with my granddaughters, and love traveling. Just married in September and when my new husband retires this time next year he will be here in Tennessee full time with me. He is 3 hours away

You sound really interesting! I am anxious to hear how it goes with the bees, I've always wanted to do that. Which hatchery are you purchasing from. Lisa
