I LOVE CHICKENS!
I am only 26yrs old. Married for about 7 months, and we have 5 kids! Just bought our propery with 7 acres right in the middle of town. I have always wanted a farm so I have started.
I started off with my first set of 5 chickens 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Americanas (sp?) and 1 Road Island Red. Found out after I bought them that they are 4ish yrs old. They have all been laying just fine. But it started something......an obsession! So I got 4 more..... and then 3 more.
Today we slaughtered one of our first 5 girls. She stopped laying and was not fallowing the flock, also she was limping a bit and being picked on by some of the other girls.
So we went from this beautiful bird, Golden Eye to our great looking hopfuly decent tasting dinner tonight! It has been a great learning experiance for myself and our kids! Plus I will get more birds!
I am really enjoying this site as well as the Back Yard Heards site! I am really hoping that there are some people on here that are around my area.
