Hi, My name is Laura & I live in Milton where I have six acres and have Tennessee Walking Horses. Hoping to increase my farm way of life :) I spent three years researching breeds, coops, etc. and this past November I ordered ten female chicks from My Pet Chicken and they arrived in April. I wanted a mix of good layers, pretty colored egg layers, and unique looking chickens. Eight of them survived and are now living in the coop full time and loving life! I have enjoyed them so much I just ordered six more bantams to replace a mille fleur d'uccle and an ameruacana bantam I lost. My older babies are 7 weeks old and are:

Black Copper Maran
Black Laced Wyandotte
Cream Legbar
Buff Brahma Bantam
Polish Crested Bantam
Buff Silkie
Lavendar Orpington
Rhode Island Red

Here they are chilling in the coop this morning. Everybody can fly up to a roosting pole to sleep at night except for our poor little silkie. She sits underneath them at night and pouts :(

I just added another new thread under "help identify baby chics" with pictures of my six new chicks, so please take a look if you can and let me know what breeds I got. As I said, my new ones are all bantams, I ordered two ameraucanas and an assortment of 4 bantams because their selection was liminted this time of year. Thank you! I look forward to gleaning all sorts of fantastic advice from all of the chicken experts here!

Hi :welcome Laura

Glad you could join the flock! What a lovely mixed flock you have there. Sounds like the chicken math has got hold of you with adding more chicks!! It happens to us all. Flocks just seem to grow without you really noticing I know mine certainly did. Maybe you could put a lower roost out for your silkie? I'm sure she would appreciate it. Hope you find out what your new ones are, I'm sure lots of members will be along to help you.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Hi Laura, nice to meet you. Silkies aren't really fliers, their type of wing feathers generally keeps them on the ground. They usually pile up in the corner of the coop, on the floor at night. A low roost may do the trick.

Welcome to BYC, Laura! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your birds! They are adorable!! You've picked some great breeds. You are bound to get lots of colorful, tasty eggs once the chicks reach their appropriate ages. I love MyPetChicken! That is such a great website to find tons of chicken things! I've never actually ordered chickens from them but I've heard good things about the chicks. I'm sorry to hear about the ones you lost!
