Hi. I'm a newbie to having chickens. I got my first 6 chickens last June. I'm loving having chickens. I in middle of making plans on building a permanent coop right now i have a metal shed that is not the greatest. I'm been had a few of my chickens get frost bite. In the spring I'm getting 5 more chickens and I'm thinking of getting a couple buff geese. :) I'm totally new to this and enjoy learning about what others do!

Welcome to BYC, Nicole. Glad you decided to our flock. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have; and what kind are you planning on getting?

Minnesota does get cold. I think the small or flat combed breeds are better for escaping frostbite. Whatever type of structure you use for a coop is should be draft free, and have sufficient ventilation - otherwise condensation can fall back on the birds and cause frostbite. Vaseline on combs and wattles can help some.
