Hello! Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. We are from Missouri, and recently decided to revisit my childhood by getting a "few" laying pullets from our local Orchelins. Well, when I say a "few" I started out with a few anyway, lol. I started with buying 4 Polish Crested, an Australorp, a black sex link, and 2 barred rocks. My hubby built me a 15 X 9 X 6 ft high coop with an outside run ( I plan to free range them during the day when they are big/old enough ). Well, the boys and I spent hours collecting bugs and watching those chicks play "keepaway" with them, so I ended up going back for more! I have added a few Easter Eggers, cochins, and New Hampshires to the lot. I was mainly interested in laying hens, but have looked into the meat birds - my husband is NOT enthusiastic about that enterprise! He plucked and butchered many a chicken when he was a kid and is not wanting to revisit that scene! But, even he sits with us and watches the chicks - they are quite the conversation piece with their antics. Anyway, I have been doing my research and no matter what the topic this forum always comes up in my google searches - so it seems you guys have it going on when it comes to chickens! I figured since I seem to find my way here most days anyway, I might as well join in and introduce myself, and if I have any questions I can post. Looking forward to relearning the ropes!
