Hello everyone,
We have had chickens for about a year now and they are a lot of fun. We are looking at adding to our flock some new chicks, that my daughters can handle and tame. We got our other chickens when they were older and so they are not as friendly as we would like. The rooster is starting to wear out his welcome as he has scared the three year old and will even run into the back of my wife's and my legs when we turn our back on him.
I am looking for suggestions on what breeds would be good to have with our three year old and one year old. Something friendly and docile and unique.
Thanks and it will be fun learning from each of you.
Jeff

Hi Notla
Fellow Missourian here too!
Glad you joined BYC the community is great with a wealth of information.
The silkies are a really calm and friendly breed, they are a breed that is in high demand so you won't go wrong with them and they go broody so your kinds can have the experience of seeing mother nature do her thing.
Buff Orphingtons are a larger breed that to is very docile and easy going.
Good Luck!

Cochins and Orpingtons are nice for children, as they tend to be mild tempered. My Euskal Oiloas are unique, very friendly, and reported to be good layers (mine are too young for that yet).
