I live in the twin cities area and this is my first year keeping chickens. I got 5 black australorps hens last spring (on accident!) as day old chicks And still have all 5 although I’m trying to rehome 2 of them due to space.

My chickens just began laying eggs in the last few weeks so that has been very exciting! Although the recent extremely cold weather has made this first winter a little anxiety inducing for me, so far it seems like we made it through the polar vortex without any frost bite!

I recently had a baby late last year and I can’t wait for him to get old enough to be amused by watching the chickens, help with keeping them, and collect the eggs. We’ve also got 3 dogs (Aussie, heeler, and a mastiff) and a 50 gallon saltwater fish tank. Hopefully in the next five years we will be moving to a place with some acreage and we’ll have enough space for a really large coop and more space for the dogs, but for now we’re in the suburbs :)

I’m interested in learning more about keeping chickens and can’t wait to learn from people here!
