Hello! Finally after years of wanting to get chickens our dream will become reality tomorrow when we get our 25 chicks! We just bought a new house this past November, so we finally have room to have free range chickens! I am so excited. Since I am new to all this I will likely have a lot of questions -
I'm really excited to learn from all of you. I am interested in raising organic Non-GMO chickens and making my own fermented feed. I've been reading about the benefits of it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, 25, I cannot imagine brooding so many, my 6 were quite a handful.

I would recommend re-reading raising baby chicks articles in the Learning Center. And make sure you have all the "nursery" stuff getting ready.

When they arrive, make sure the drink before they eat - hopefully this will help avoid pasty butts. But review pasty butts, and watch all closely, they are more common than I would have imagined.

Feel free to ask questions. Would love to see pics when you get them settled in.

Glad you could join the flock! Wow 25 chicks that is quite a start there for you. I have 17 newly hatched at the moment and I can really see them not lasting very long in the guinea cage before they have to move out to the brooding shed. They grow so quickly, you will certainly be kept busy with them. Raising chicks is so much fun though and very rewarding really worth all work with them as you see them grow and mature.

Hello and Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined! I feed non GMO (not organic, because of the cost) fermented feed, and my birds love it! PM me some time, and maybe I'll be able to share some helpful tips, and definitely check out the fermented feed link that Mountain Peeps posted. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I've been researching quite a bit and am familiar with pasty butt. I've heard Apple cider vinegar in the water can help?! My husband is just finishing the brooder with the heat lamp, and I'm making the nipple watering bucket! Thank you for the wonderful advice and links to the websites! I know what I'll be doing tonight.
