Hello,

I have been reading posts on this site for a while, and thought I would finally become a member.

I brought home 13 Aracauna (supposedly) hens, and 1 rooster two weeks ago, and I think my city boy husband is just about finished his bottle of meds now.

They seem to be doing quite well and our little pony (that also "followed" me home

) seems to enjoy chasing them.

It has been very cold up here with much snow, and definitely not a good time of year to be starting with chickens, but they came up for sale after waiting for over a year looking for them, so of course I brought them home.

I didn't have a chicken coop at all (that would have given my hubby a heads up now wouldn't it???) so I built a three sided room from straw bales with the fourth side being the horse lean to, and the roof sheets of plywood. It has worked quite well and warm inside.

They were laying the first week I brought them home, but sadly have stopped and I am hoping will resume shortly as they are all healthy, have sufficient lighting, and are warm enough with the correct food.

I look forward to posting. Take care!
