Hello, all!
My husband and I are new to chickens (and ducks...and turkeys...) but have gotten started in a pretty big way. At least, it seems like a big way, since my initial plan was to have 3 or 4 laying hens. Problem is, no one told me how wonderful and cute they are, so now we have 31 chickens--three of which are roosters (two welsummers that were supposed to be girls, and a silkie). they are an assorted group--we have five polish (buff, silver lace and crested) 2 favorelles, a spotted sussex, an asian blue a cuckoo maran etc etc etc lol. We also have 6 ducks . That didn't work well as we were hoping for eggs, and ended up with five drakes. Last, but certainly not least, we have four turkeys that follow us around like dogs-one of the even rides in our four wheeler work vehicle with my husband. In addition, we have a german shepherd that tries to keep everyone in line, and two cats that pretend they are the only pets we have.
LOVE this site--it has been invaluable as we have started out. Great, friendly people willing to share their knowledge. Just awesome (I will say that someone should have advised us to build a coop BEFORE we bought chickens...lol!
