Just started raising chickens. Done pigs, horses, cows, now for smaller animals. We have 6, 3 week old chicks growing into their new feathers nicely.

We're still working on the fencing of converting an above ground pool patio to chicken run. We have a ton of chicken wire we want to utilize and will be hooking up a hot wire to our existing to deter predators. Does this seem sufficient to keep the chickens safe?

It's difficult to visualize from your description what your fencing will look like. Normally enclosures should be protected with hardware cloth instead of chicken wire as there are too many predators that can tear through chicken wire, or squeeze through the openings in the mesh. However, depending on where and how your electric wiring is laid and what kind of predators you have in your area, it might be sufficient. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2013/07/11-tips-for-predator-proofing-chickens.html on protecting your chickens from predators.
