Hello all. I've found some great info here but this is my first time posting. I live in North Idaho. I have two mature buff orpingtons and one mature auracana. I also have three young ameraucanas and an eight year old yellow lab mix. I'm a carpenter and I like to be outside. Thanks for having me.

Welcome. There is a lot of good information and a lot of great people in this group. I'm not a carpenter but I think I might have gotten interested in chickens just so I could build the coop.

Nice. You absolutely should build your own. I would refer to Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens for information on design/square footage.

Being a carpenter will be handy...there always seems to be some sort of poultry project that needs doing, even after the coop is built. Would love to see photos of your coop, if you care to share.
