Hello from northeast Wyoming!

Hello! My family is raising our first chickens and after Pinterest bringing me here a few (many) times, I decided to join. We are designing our 8x4 coop using many of the ideas I've found so far. We only have 6 chicks so far, but our town ordinance allows for 10, so we are trying to create our coop and run to allow for that many. We are planning raised roosts with poop boards underneath and nesting boxes coming out of the coop. Our run is going to be 11x8.... though we have room for bigger. Any tips would be appreciated!

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us.

The minimum space recommendations are 4 sqft per bird coop space, 10 sqft per bird run space. If you can build a larger run - do it. The more space your flock has, the less likely you are to encounter stress-related problems.

If you have room for bigger, bigger is almost always better.

Build the bigger the better, Chickens never complain about having too much room but, sure get upset if they are too crowded.
