My family and I have been trying to get closer to nature the past couple years. We had a small garden last year and 6 laying hens. We lost our 6 hens when we moved (death by neighbor dogs) and bought 3 Buff Orphingtons that just recently started laying. We have 36 new baby chicks -- 10 Red Star Sex Links and 26 heavy meat cockerels that will become freezer food when the time comes. We also have a young rabbit to go along with the 3 dogs and 2 cats to round off our animal farm.
We are looking forward to getting a larger garden started in a few weeks and meeting new people while selling our vegetables at the local farmer markets. Would love to hear from anyone else living in Northern MS who is also trying to become more self sufficient and getting back to nature.
