Hello, All! We have just started our chicken journey here at 7500 ft altitude in Glorieta, NM. After much research, we got six chicks (pullets) in early March: one Barred Rock, one Golden Laced Wyandotte, one Amberlink, one Black Star, and two Blue Australorps. They're still indoors, but we are working hard to complete their new home. We have lots of fauna here, including bears and mountain lions, so it's taking a bit to fortify the coop and run space the best we can. We are thankful to find so much excellent insight to chicken keeping.

Welcome to BYC!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Down here in the South Central Mountains of New Mexico!! Definitely fortify the ground around the coop, New Mexico is known for night time diggers. If they can smell moving air or holes, they dig. Build a nice big run, free ranging can be a challenge with Bobcats, Coyotes and Hawks.

Congrats on your new chicks! If you have any questions about them along the way, be sure to ask. Welcome to our community!
