Hi, I have just started my first flock of 10 hens and have had 4 eggs so far. We introduced a rooster last week but he is so mean, that we will have to deal with that situation. Thanks for a great site full of loads of great info!

Hi there. Whereabouts in Ontario are you? I am in the Bancroft area. We just started out with chickens 4 weeks ago today. We have 16 hens and a rooster. We probably average a dozen a day. The birds are a year or two old. They are great fun!

We are in Thunder Bay. Loving the hens which we have had since the 9th...not loving the rooster. He is an attack bird. If the feed store wont take him today, sadly, he is gonna be soup. I just have to figure out the best way to do the deed. Lots of advice on this forum. :-)

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like you have a nice flock. Congrats on the eggs! Sorry to hear about the mean rooster. You can try taming him with treats and quiet words but it might just be best to get another and try again.

Welcome to the flock. Never a good reason to keep a bad rooster. You could invite him to dinner as the quest of honor. Loads of worthwhile roosters seeking homes because the town or HOA won't allow them.

You may want to post on "Canadians, check-in-here," often posters are trying hard to place a rooster or two, because they don't want them to end up eaten.
