I'm Jeff (at least that is what my mother told me). I had often heard that Chickens were not allowed in my town. Last October I was exploring what it would take to change the zoning rules. I was very happy when I got an E-mail back from the head of zoning enforcement. He said we have no rules than reference poultry. You can have all the chicken you want for your own use. We do have a noise ordinance and a smell ordinance that we will enforce if there are and complaints. On November 10th my 9 chickens arrived from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio.

A Buckeye named Bucky. She sings along with the radio

Leghorn names Sarah. She is the early adopter of the bunch. She was the first to fly out of the brooder, first to eat sprouts and first to eat a worm.

A Cuckoo Maran named Gerty - She has an odd voice, like a cranky old neighbor lady yelling at the kids to get out of her yard.

A Barred Plymouth Rock named Cuckoo - When they were young we though she was the cuckoo maran.

A Black Australorp named Amelia Earhart - Flies everywhere. Likes to be up higher than the other birds.

A Salmon Faverolle named Starlite - Always first out of the coop - very friendly - loves to be held.

A Golden Buff named Spice Girl. She has a sweet demeanor and loves to be the center of attention.

A Easter Egger named Martha Stewart. She has been the leader since coming home from the post office. I am a bit concerned she may be a he.

A Broiler (AKA Cornish Cross) named Cacciatore. She was New Years Dinner. I wanted to experience raising grocery store birds. This will be the subject of a
future post.

Later I added a RIR named Penny. A saw her at the feed store and the rest is history.

Getting chickens has been a fabulous experience!

Jeff
