Hello all! My name is Rachel, and my family and I are relatively new to chickens. I’m loving everything I’m learning from this site! We live in Marysville, Ohio on two acres, with three cats, a dog and four kids (ages 4, 11, 14 and 18 
). We have wanted chickens for a few years; my husband started on our coop last year, and this February we decided it was close enough to finished to get our baby chicks!
We initially wanted 8-10, ordered 12, then ended up buying 6 more while we were there, so now we have 18 seven-week old chicks we have had since the day they hatched! We got an assortment of breeds from Meyer Hatchery:
Light brown leghorn
Olive egger
Exchequer leghorn
Speckled sussex
Golden laced Wyandotte
Black Australorp
Cookies and cream (hybrid)
Sapphire jewel (hybrid)
Wheaten Maran
Egyptian Fayoumis
Dark Brahma
White Cochin
We chose all females but are pretty sure the Sussex is a roo. They spent the first two weeks in a converted dog crate and then into a playpen; we had them inside and boy were people right about dust! But it was a great experience for all of us having them inside.
They’ve been out in the coop for about two weeks and they’re doing great! We have just started letting them out for an hour or so at night to free range. Can’t wait to learn more from you all!!
