I have finally convinced my spouse to embrace (read: tolerate) backyard chickens. I have ordered 2 each Rhode Island Red, Welsummer, Easter Egger, and Barred Rock. They will be coming in early April. In the meantime I may pick a trio up from our local Tractor Supply as their chicks come in much sooner, and I am very eager. All of the information has been very helpful in planning this endeavor. I have a brooder all ready to go and plans to remodel an old play fort and swingset into a coop and run. I hope to post pics of that transformation as it takes place. It is both thrilling to read about all the triumphs and heart wrenching to read about the painful loss and frightful close calls some people have written about. I am really looking forward to this experience and sharing it with all of you.
