Hello.

Brand new to chickens and brand new to BYC!
My name is Lori. I live in a small town (pop. 1300) just about an hour south of Tulsa. I am married and have 2 sons, Justin, 19 and Stetson, 8. Stetson is autistic. He is a HUGE animal lover. Whenever the spring chicks come to the local feed stores, we always have to make several special trips to the stores so he can watch, hold and make sure the chicks are doing ok. I think having chicks will be an incredible project for him to be involved in! We have purchased a used, fairly large chicken coop that needs a little TLC, but is in great shape otherwise. I have been on BYC for the past 2 weeks researching chickens. How to care for them and most importantly, the breeds and the characteristics. What an awesome place to get all the information I need to get started! We have ordered day old baby chicks that should be here in the next 10 days or so. I don't know who is more excited, Stetson or me!!
I'm so glad I have a forum of experienced owners that I can go to for help!

BYC is a great place. You will love it here.
When you get some time check out the OKIES in the BYC thread.
There are lots and lots of Okies there waiting to meet you, chat, answer questions enable you with more chickens etc. etc.
It a fun place.
I was born and raised in Henryetta. My parents and brother still live there. What town are you from?
Again. welcome and check out us other Okies.

When I was very little I also lived in a very tiny town in Oklahoma.

That's where I first fell in love with my GGma's chickens.

from Texas!
That is such a fun idea for your kiddo! He will love to see them grow. (Trying to teach my 1 year old to be "soft" with my hens-- he loooves them!) I never though chickens would make such a fun pet!

Everybody here is super-helpful with any questions and very friendly.

Welcome & good luck with the little chickies!
