Well, I've finally convinced my husband to come to terms with my chicken raising h aspirations. I haven't purchased/built a coop yet, and it's looking like I won't officially have chickens until next spring, but I'm starting to do some serious research now. :-) I'm intrigued by chicken tractors/mobile coops, and so far it looks ilke that's the route I'll be taking. Our winters can be seriously cold, and our summers can be seriously hot and humid. Trying to figure out what breeds would be best (egg layers) to handle those conditions. Love the website!

Nice to meet you Jen. If you post on your state thread, at "where am I, where are you?" in the social forum. You can ask others what breeds best handle your weather, what type of coop is best, etc. Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

Hopefully all questions can be answered at the learning center, located here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/ If there are any questions not answered there, feel free to ask me or anyone of the amazing people on here

You are making the best decision getting chickens, your husband will see too when you get them

I'm glad you joined our "flock!"

I'd definitely check out the Learning Center and Breed Reviews sections of this forums. However, one breed that I recommend is the Wyandotte. Wyandottes, in my experience, are both cold and heat hardy (though they do better in the cold), lay 250+ eggs per year, and have great temperaments.

Whatever breed(s) you decide to eventually get, good luck with raising chickens!
