Hi,

We've got chickens and ducks and live in Oregon.
Been reading here quite a while, building chicken and duck houses and enjoying seeing what others do - finally took the plunge and joined in.
We live in the country now - big change last year and we love it. Had to reinforce our chicken house (no more chicken wire out here - it's 16 gauge hardware cloth all the way) but so far no mishaps with the girls and lots of happy times.
We use electric poultry fencing and rotation around a stationary house so far, and it seems to work very well. We do a serious lock up every night, though... no 'open flooring' or moveable house yet - although if we get to the stage of a guardian dog we might try that.
For now we are pretty much unwilling to risk it with foxes, coyotes, bobcats, raccoons and other predators all close at hand and visible.
We also have a pair of ducks who are hatching out ducklings right now and that is pretty much what led us to finally break down and join so we can ask questions and get some insights - read quite a bit on this already and feel pretty good about our choices and descisions so far.
The baby ducks were something we were not sure our Olga could pull off, but obviously she has, and we are still only half way through building the new larger duck house so we've pretty much had to drop everything and get busy building that new house.

It's been super hot here most days for the last two weeks and then really quite cool overnight - tonight is especially so - and we are wondering if our mama duck and her babies are fine out there in the little house - but so far she's getting them hatched out, so clearly she knows more than we do about how it's done.
