Hi! My name is Veronica and I live in southeastern PA. I am newbie to chicken raising so this site has been pretty helpful to me in the last few months. I received my first batch of baby chicks at the beginning of August: 3 lavender orpingtons, 2 easter eggers, and 2 blue favaucanas. Unfortunately, one of our lav orps died within minutes of taking her out of the box. She didn't fair well over transit. And so my first day of chicken owning was both the best day and the worst day of my chicken owning career. The "ladies" are just over 12 weeks now. We have our golden girls, Rose, Blanche and Dorothy. As well as Ruth (Bader Ginsberg), Harriet, and Louise. However, I've started calling "Louise" "Lou" because I've been having some doubts on her gender, which is the main reason I have signed up for this site. Even though we had the chicks sexted as females, I know it isn't 100%, and I believe that one of the lav orps is actually a roo. I will probably be posting pictures of all my chickens, to get votes on gender. Even with as much as I've read up on it, I still second guess myself with everyone of them. So I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks :)

rjohns39- You are in luck! My husband is a photographer, so these ladies get their picture taken quite often. These are their portraits at 2 weeks. They are 12 weeks now and will probably be doing another round of professional photos soon as long as they'll have it. In order we have: Blanche, Harriet, Louise/Lou, Dorothy, Ruth (Bader Ginsberg) and Rose.

G’Day from down under Veronica :frow Welcome!

OMG!! Adorable bubbies and beautiful pictures! :love

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

Post a current picture of Louise. At 12 week we should be able to tell gender. 2 weeks not so much
