A few weeks ago I knew nothing about chickens other then they and their eggs taste good. Then I saw food Inc.
I decided that it would be cool to raise hens, but what do I know about chickens? so a Google search brought me here to BYC. I spent the next two weeks reading and learning as much as I could. Like most things I'm interested in and excited about I try to learn all I can then plunge in feet first.
I had an old 10x10 dog pen in the yard and thought it would make a great area for my coop. I wrapped the inside with chicken wire so they’d be safe and so they couldn’t get their little heads stuck. Next I ordered a manufactured hen house and set up their environment. Now all I need are some hens.
WOW this was the part I’d thought would be easy. I decided I wanted at least started pullets for my first go-round. Not so easy to find as I found out. But after some searching I found several listings in my area and a nice man that sold me 2 Rhode Island reds already laying, 2 Red Stars that just started laying. Then I got a 8 week old Black sex link ( she’s SO cute) and a young bantam that looks like a hawk. (wish I knew more about her)
I’ve posted some pictures for all to see offer advise, opinions and, critiquing. All are welcome.
