Hello From Palm beach county! Ready to learn about raising egg laying chickens in Florida.

I took a while but I found out I can have some chickens where I live...now to learn...which breeds are best for my area, which are most disease resistant....are hybrids stronger than pure breeds? Thank you for having this site.

Mediterranean type breeds would work well in your environment. As much as I absolutely love Leghorns the high production Leghorns are not long lived.

I don't know about your area, but in my experience heritage breeds are hardier in general.

Hello, welcome to BYC. In addition to @DobieLover suggestion, I'd like to add crested cream legbars and welsummers. Both are heat hardy. The cclb lays blue, the welsummer lays a dark reddish brown. Those eggs will look great with the leghorns' white egg.
