Hello, I'm new to BYC.....I just got a couple of Barred Rocks. Had them about four weeks, they're five weeks old. Just introduced them to the coop/run a few days ago. Poor ladies are having to get used to this Texas heat. BYC seems like a great site with tons of useful knowledge.

Make sure your young ladies have plenty of shade (real or manufactured), lots of cool water(put ice in there) - youngsters can get heat stroke quickly especially if they aren't used to being outside.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I built the coop and run under a large tree, so they get a lot of shade. Great idea with the ice, I will definitely do that!

! Great to have you aboard! Heat is tougher thing on birds than cold, that's for sure. You might also give frozen peas or watermelon. Also, lots of shade! I wet the ground down in the shade of the run so they can dig down into the cool dirt. Good luck to you!
