Hi everyone!
My name is Francisco and I'm from Portugal.
I've always loved animals and had chickens and ducks when I was younger... A few years ago I decided to go back to backyard poultry and start raising chickens again. But this time I decided to breed two specific breeds: Marans and Araucanas.
I started with just mixed chickens but quickly moved to Marans and recently got some Araucanas.
I got my Marans from a Portuguese breeder... I got some eggs and luckily many of them hatched!
The araucanas I got in Spain... I got 12 baby chicks and all of them made it!
Right now I have around 35 chickens (+/- 9 roosters). I still have mixed-breed hens but all my roosters are Marans or Araucana. I had some turkeys too but decided to focus only on chickens.
I also have two sheep and two dogs (a german shepherd and a labrador). Unfortunately sheep and dogs don't go along very well... and my german shepherd already attacked one of my sheep twice. Luckily we were able to save her and she's doing just fine!
I'm a big soccer fan and go to all home games to support my Lisbon team - Sporting Clube de Portugal
I found BYC on google when I was looking for some answers about... chickens, of course!
