My bf and I moved to the area from FL about 6 months ago and recently bought a house with some acreage. Now that we finally have our own space, we wanted to start living a more organic lifestyle by growing some of our own food and keeping some chickens for eggs (and company! I just love having any and all animals around!).
I would love to talk to anyone also living in the Northwest or somewhere with a similar climate. As it can get very cold here, I have some concerns for the chickens. Are there certain breeds that do better in the cold? Do I need to find a way to heat their coop? Or is there a certain way I need to build the coop to make it warmer?
Any other tips for a newbie?
Thanks!
