I am new to this site and the world of live chickens. My husband had chicken while he was growing up so he has some knowledge but I have never had the opportunity until now. We are expecting our first flock in May so we are in the beginning stages of building a coop and getting the brooder ready for their arrival.
Chickens have always been a love of mine. I am an avid quilter and have many quilts that are either chicken themed or I have found a way to applique a chicken(s) on it.
Our family consists of six kids (ages 22, 21, 20, 19, 12 & 10), three dogs, two cats, and a tortoise. The majority of our time over the years has been spent on sports (softball, baseball, and soccer) so now that we only have our last two at home we have more personal time on our hands. The property we live on is quiet and fenced, safe from coyotes and other roaming predators. I have a large separately fenced in garden that we will be placing the chicken coop in for extra protection.
I found this site when I was looking to purchase baby chicks. Wow what a find…. It is absolutely amazing to see that there are others out there that love these incredible critters and have a passion for all things chicken! Most folks in my circle of friends and family that I share this adventure with think that it is a neat idea that we are getting chickens but chuckle at the amount of research and planning we have put into for preparing for our new arrivals.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and that I look forward to exchanging new ideas and wonderful moments with all of you.
