Hi,
We have just been given 4 hens. While we were planning on getting chickens we've only just moved house and we are not set up yet. So, for at least a few more days our chickens are living in the backyard during the day and sleeping in a cage in our laundry overnight. The chickens are from a school chicken raising project so they are used to being handled and are very docile. We were told that they are 5-6 week old Rhode Island Reds, but after googling I doubt it. The age might be right, but the colours aren't. Anyway I read some posts and thought that this looked like a great community. :)

My guess (and it's only a guess) on the reddish color birds is that they are red sex links, they are a hybrid and terrific egg layers. Not sure about the white ones. More greeters will be along and they may be able to give you a better id.

Thanks for joining us, nice of you to take the school projects home!

G'day and Welcome to Backyard chickens. BYC has a large Aussie community and a thread "Australia, six states and one funny little island," that you might enjoy. I too, suggest you post photos at "what breed or gender is this." If you know the age, that is another plus.
