Hello!
I read about this website in my new Backyard Poultry Magazine. Forum member, matthewschickens, was singing its praises, so I decided to have a look.
I am Sunny, known all over the 'net as Wildflower_VA. I was raised on a farm, but life took me other directions until last year. Last July I closed on a two-acre piece of heaven and started GloryBe Farmstead. I will be raising vegetables organically, pastured chickens for eggs and meat, and natural beekeeping in top-bar hives.
I have just started my laying flock on March 1 with six Black Australorp pullet chicks. I have had a ball raising them. We always had chickens growing up on the farm, but Mama Hen did all the work. This is new for me setting up a brooder and raising them by hand. I managed quite well with the help of the book "City Chicks", by Patricia Foreman (also Chicken Tractor). The journal she kept was my Dr. Spock of chicken raising. Also, I am a member of Shenandoah Valley Poultry and Garden Club, organized by Pat Foreman, so I have the advantage of her years of raising chickens at my fingertips.
I look forward to getting to know fellow chicken lovers on this forum.
