Hi, I can't believe I have not already joined BYC, i have spent countless hours on this sight. I am Kelly. We bought my 27 year old dd some chickens for Christmas because she had been wanting them for fresh eggs. I had been researching Turkeys and waiting to buy them until I had everything lined out. I DIDN'T WANT CHICKENS. Well my "Darling" Daughter wouldn't let the other kids have anything to do with her Christmas Chickens so when a local store was having a "Chick Egstraviganza" My husband and son convinced me we needed them. I already had committed to buying the turkeys. So we got chickens and turkeys that WE are responsible for on the same weekend. Then we got a call from a friend they had a "Breeding Pair" of Black Silkies that were too young to lay eggs yet and he needed to get rid of them do we want them? Sure why not! Except one problem they both are roosters! I keep telling the kids we need to learn to butcher these roosters....

Yes we are this disorganized and crazy. I have 5 kids, 27 to 8 years old. 8 cattle, 9 sheep, 4 turkeys, 7 chickens, 4 cats ( who are afraid of the chickens but like to try to heard the sheep), and 1 idiot dog.

Now I need to go to the Turkey area and ask my questions that I have not found answers too. Thanks for having this sight.

! Great to have you with us! Sounds like you have a busy poultry farm! Good luck to you - hope you get your turkey questions answered.

It wouldn't be worth the effort to butcher a silky, they are a lot of fluff and not more than a mouthful. Silkies are very popular as pets and eye candy. I'm sure you could rehome the roosters without much trouble. Someone else may be glad to have them.
