My sweetie and I are soon to be moving to a house in Sacramento Ca and I have gotten the green light for a chicken coop from him :) Just joined the forum to start learning what kind of chickens, coop, etc. Hello everyone!

Glad you joined us at Backyard Chickens. The best way to start a chicken education is at the Learning Center. Then join your state thread. California is home to many, Bycers. Just put "California thread," in the search box. Several should pop up and you pick the one closest to your area. Folks there should be able to suggest what breeds do best, what type of coop to handle the climate, and so on.

Congrats on the move! In addition to having the ok from your SO, be sure your local laws and ordinances approve and that your coop/run will be in compliance with zoning rules.

Good luck to you and if you have questions, feel free to ask. There's a ton of good information here and lots of helpful, friendly members.

Thanks for joining us!

I did check the ordnances. Can only have three girls. No roosters, min distance from houses and fun stuff like that. Tiny flock but tiny is better than no flock.
