I am brand new to chickens. My husband and I have been kicking the idea around for a couple of years, but just couldn't get up the guts to do it. This year my sister decided to get some, but after 10 weeks with her new chicks she had a severe (life threatening) allergic reaction to them. So, long story short, we now have 4 of her original 6 (one was injured and one turned out to be a good looking SLW roo) and 3 new chicks we are going to introduce to the flock when they are old enough. We have 2 EE's, 1 White Leghorn, 1 Black Sex Link, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Buff Orpington, and 1 Rode Island Red. I will learn all the abbreviations soon!
I found BYC while doing some late, late night chicken research- thank goodness! I come up with more questions every day, and so far I have been able to find the answers I need here.
When I am not chicken-obsessing, I am plant-obsessing. Sometimes I do both at the same time! My poor kids. I have a wonderful (coop-building) husband, 2 sons and 1 daughter, and 1 golden retriever I am trying to train to protect the chickens. I also apparently have 2 hawks that like to come visit us now- who told them we got chickens?!
Anyway, thanks for all the help and I am glad to be part of BYC!

So glad you found us. I graduated from the "U" and lived on 8th East between 2nd and 3rd South back when I was attending the university.
