Hello everyone!
I am new to chickens. We started with a 3-4 week old chick that came home with my 1st grade son at the end of the school year. She was hatched as a school project and we were the lucky family that got to adopt her. She is some sort of white mixed. A buddy of mine that knows chickens said that she probably started as a leghorn and was mixed to become a meat bird. She is 7 weeks old now and has become our pet.
I built a coop for her and yesterday got a couple of barred rocks around the same age. My purpose (other than family pets) is egg production for my family. This has really started to bring out the "farmer" in me and the kids are completely in love with chickens now. I am looking forward to reading, learning, and getting to know some of you.
