(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got 10 chicks about 7 years ago in my suburban NJ yard. They were Rhode Island Reds and Golden Sex-link.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 10 laying hens and 4 chicks
(3) What breeds do you have?
Not sure. Going to post in breed section.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh Eggs - everybody loves our fresh eggs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Right now all of my spare time goes into our new farm, whether it be animals or the garden.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We bought a 12.5 acre farm and moved from NJ to SC this past November. My youngest is in High School and finally has her horses at home. Not sure she realized how much work that would be compared to full board. lol. We came to SC with 1 horse and 2 dogs have added 1 more horse, a miniature horse, 10 laying hens , 4 chicks, and 2 barn cats. The cats came with the property. I have put a halt to aquiring more animals right now as I want to focus on some garden stuff, but I said that before the 4 chicks. lol.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have periodically googled things over the past 6 years when I didn’t know the answer and have found great articles and forum posts on this site.
I decided to finally join so I could post in the forums.
