(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am pretty new to chickens. I've just got chickens back in April of 2017.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 6 chickens, 5 hens and 1 rooster.

(3) What breeds do you have?
3 Rhode Island Reds and 3 ISA Browns.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
By searching "can chickens fart"... lol

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Tending to my garden (1 acre plot), taking my sons hunting and fishing, and woodburning.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married to the love of my life for 10 years, we have 3 sons ages 8 (will be 9 Jan. 22nd), 4, and 1. We have one black and tan coonhound named Tracker, and a goldfish named Goliath. I am the maintenance supervisor for a local university and I love my job.

I am hoping to add to my flock this spring, but not sure if I want more RIRs or if I want to go with a different breed. If you have any suggestions on what breed would work well with the 2 I already have and can do well in the South Carolina heat, please let me know.

Thank you!

:welcome so glad you have joined us.

Our weather in Middle Georgia is just a little warmer than yours, but i have had BR, BO and Welsummers and they have done well with both cold and heat here.

Just curious, did you get an answer to your question #4?
If not, I can verify they do :lau

I did! I was researching that because a friend told me that you could feed them cooked beans but he wasn't sure of the effects it would have on chickens. After reading several posts on here, I've learned that yes you can feed cooked beans to them and yes they fart! lol
