A local farm has a chicken "rental" program every spring where you get to take care of chicks for two weeks and then return them. My family did this last year and we were all sad when we had to return them. This spring my wife and two daughters begged me to buy some chickens so we would not have to return them. I figured since we are stuck at home for the quarantine it was a good time to start a flock. We started with two golden comets and two Asian blacks. Unfortunately one golden died in the first week and one Asian was eaten by a rat snake. The coop and run are complete (now with 1/4" wire instead of 1" to keep the snakes out) and the chickens are big enough to move in full time. However it has been unseasonably cold the last week so we have been bringing the ladies in at night. Tomorrow will be their first night in the coop since the overnight temperature will be in the mid 60s.
