Hello from South Louisiana

Hello all! I am a single mother of two girls from South Louisiana! We all LOVE the outdoors and animals. My girls were given each a chicken last Easter from my sister. With the drastic summer heat, we eneded up loosing one. However, I still have one chicken left and she is (to my appearance) really healthy. My only concern is that she is almost a year old and she has yet to lay any eggs. Can anyone tell me what may be conflicting with my chicken to not be laying eggs yet?

What breed of chicken is she? What are you feeding her?

I am not exactly sure what breed she is. She was given to my daughters as a gift. She is big and white and looks like your average everyday chicken. I have been buying chicken feed from my local feed store. It is a mixture of seeds and corn.

Hi and from Ohio. So happy you joined. You need a feed that is a layer feed. Also, chickens are flock animals. She needs a friend. Her loneliness could have an effect on egg laying.

Yes I agree, you need layer feed and she needs a friend to keep her company. Good luck, hope you start getting eggs soon!
