Hello all.

When I say south Wales I mean welsh South Wales rather than New South Wales... Just to be clear.

Up to a couple of months ago the only bird we had was our 2-year-old female cockatiel, Olaf (don't ask...) A work colleague started it all by mentioning he was thinking of getting a few Quail to keep the weeds in his garden in check. I reported this to my wife and a few days later we acquired a breeding pair of Coturnix Quail.

We have a couple of Bantams which give us a continuous supply of delicious eggs but our main interest now is our rapidly-growing Quail flock. We have just (in the last 24 hours) had some new arrivals - I set a dozen of our own quail eggs 19 days ago and we now have 9 very healthy little chicks in the brooder, 2 eggs left in the incubator...one of which has just started pipping. Sadly we did loose one chick that just couldn't escape her shell and while it's disappointing to loose even one...on balance, if I can get 10 or 11 chicks from a dozen set eggs I'll be well pleased.

It's great to be here...already I've read some interesting articles and it's great to have somewhere to post in any questions (I'm sure I'll have them before long) that will inevitably arise.

Greetings!
